In response to members’ requests, Singapore Soka Association established Soka Kindergarten in January 1993 to provide preschool education for the kindergarten year one and two levels. Soka Kindergarten was registered as a private kindergarten with the Ministry of Education and fulfils the curriculum objectives and requirements set by the Ministry. The kindergarten is open to public, regardless of race and religion.
Soka Kindergarten is conceptualised as part of the Soka School System mooted by the school founder, Daisaku Ikeda. Soka Kindergarten in Singapore was the third kindergarten to open after Sapporo (Hokkaido, Japan) and Hong Kong.
The operation of Soka schools is based on the humanistic education philosophy propounded by Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, founder of the Value-Creation (Soka) Education Pedagogy.
In 1998, Soka Kindergarten relocated to its present premises at Tampines Street 92. Two years later, nursery classes were introduced.
