14 Mar 2017 Double Celebration at Chingay Awards Presentation Ceremony 2017 & Appreciation Night
SSA Chingay 2017 item ‘Singapore City of Dreams” received two awards at the Chingay Awards Presentation Ceremony 2017 and Appreciation Night that was held on March 14 at Wavehouse Sentosa. Guest-of-honour for the evening was Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Leader of the House. Performing groups, volunteers and People’s Association staff were present to celebrate the success of Chingay 2017.
This is the first time in 36 years that SSA is receiving two awards for the Chingay Parade – a double celebration in the significant year of SSA’s 50th Anniversary of Kosen-rufu Movement in Singapore.
1) Audience Favourite Contingent
The ‘Audience Favourite Contingent’ award was presented by People’s Association Board Member, Mr Ng Yoke Weng, and received by SSA Future Division Chief Wu Derui.
2) Most Popular Contingent
The presentation of second award caught the team by surprise! The ‘Most Popular Contingent’ award was received by representatives from the choreographer, trainers, performers and admin team and led by Future Division Chief Wu Derui.
In a speech by People’s Association Board Member, Mr Timothy James de Souza, PJB, BBM, PPA(P), Mr de Souza recognised SSA as the longest-standing partner of the Chingay Parade for 36 years since 1981. He attributed the organisation’s ability to participate in the Chingay Parade annually, each year with new participants, due to the strong shared common belief of its members in being good exemplary citizens who contribute back to the community. In his interaction with Dennis Lee, Contingent Leader of SSA Chingay contingent 2017, Mr de Souza learnt and shared that “when you have the gratitude in your heart, and the joy that comes from it, you will want to share it with everyone.”
