On August 28, the National Day Parade Certificate of Appreciation and a memento was presented to Soka Gakkai International President Daisaku Ikeda in recognition of his contributions towards NDP 2004 and all the past parades (where SSA had performed), at the Post-NDP Appreciation Meeting held at the SSA Headquarters.
Chairman of the NDP 2004 Executive Committee, Brigadier-General Chin Phei Chen was present at the event to present the certificate on behalf of the Defence Minister. Amidst joyous applause from some 1,300 SSA representatives present, SSA Chairman Ong Bon Chai received the honour from BG Chin on behalf of President Ikeda. The Certificate of Appreciation was presented in honour of President Ikeda’s contributions towards the success of NDP through his personal attention, care and guidance to SSA participants in the event.
In his speech, BG Chin expressed his appreciation for and admiration of President Ikeda for being an important leader who has brought Buddhism to the hearts of humankind at large. He also generously complimented SSA for the spirit of teamwork, dedication and excellence leading to a wonderful performance that won the praise of all.
In President Ikeda’s acceptance speech delivered by Mr Ong, the SGI leader expressed his deep appreciation for the honour. He stated that he humbly accept the honour together with, and on behalf of all beloved friends and members of SSA, as it is the very fruition of the dedicated contribution of all SSA members for the betterment of society.
In conclusion, Mr Ong thanked BG Chin for his constant support and encouragement to the NDP participants and to SSA.
Following this, NDP Organizing secretary Lieutenant Colonel Lim Kwang Tang presented the Certificate of Participation to the 1,200 youth performers, the 50 women performers who supported the People’s Association display item and all backstage helpers.
There is no doubt that this glory shall be eternally engraved in the annals of SSA, serving as the driving force for SSA members to continue contributing our utmost best for the peace and progress of our nation.
This year marked SSA’s 19th participation at the annual event since 1981.
