SSA Youths Pay Goodwill Visit to the Speaker of Parliament

On January 26, 2011, SSA General Director, Mr Ong Bon Chai led a group of 13 SSA youth representatives to pay a goodwill visit to the Parliament House and attended a dialogue session hosted by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi.

Mr Tarmugi shared that he continues to be impressed by SSA members’ dedication, work done for the community, and the ability to engage youths to support its good works and mission. SSA and its activities, he observed, imbues its members with a meaningful, worthwhile sense of purpose. Mr Tarmugi also encouraged SSA to continue playing an active role in engaging other faiths and generating the feeling of togetherness among the various faiths.

The SSA youths shared with the Speaker about their individual motivation for being so actively involved in contributing to the community, among which were their practice of Buddhism, which encourages them to ponder deeply on how to lead a fulfilled and value-creative life, the feeling of true joy in engaging in such activities, as well as the encouragement from their mentor in life, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda. At the end of the dialogue, Mr Tarmugi presented SSA with the book “The Singapore Parliament: The House We Built”. Thereafter, the group proceeded for a tour of the Parliament House.
