About Dendrobium Kaneko Ikeda
This is the first pot of orchid that was named after Mrs Kaneko Ikeda and was presented to her on 27 February 2007.

Dendrobium Singa Kagoshima x Dendrobium phalaenopsis

Date of pollination: 12 December 2000

Date of first flowering: 5 February 2004

This is a free-flowering hybrid. It bears flowering sprays of up to 35cm long, with six to ten regularly arranged flowers. The delightful flowers are gently rounded and measure about 6 cm across. They are a light pink in colour with darker shades on the petals and lip.

On February 27, 2007, on the occasion of Kaneko Ikeda’s 75th birthday, the Singapore National Parks Board dedicated a new orchid hybrid in her name in honour of her exemplary role in inspiring women for the cause of peace. In her message at the Orchid Naming Ceremony, Kaneko Ikeda said that she will share this unique honour with the women of SGI.

Kaneko Ikeda is a lady of strength and wisdom. She has in her own manner of soft power, warmly encouraged fellow women to contribute to society through peace, cultural and educational endeavours.

The Kaneko Orchid Garden in Okinawa was opened in 2012.
