08 May 2020 Blood Donation Drive in Partnership with Singapore Red Cross
As the national blood supply dips to a new low and critical levels during this circuit breaker period, SSA has stepped forward to partner the Singapore Red Cross in holding a blood donation drive happening at the SSA Headquarters on Saturday, 16 May 2020, 10am to 4pm!
If you are healthy and keen to contribute your part for a worthy cause, do call Singapore Red Cross at 62200183 today to make an appointment for staggered entry into the venue. Do note that there will be crowd control and safe distancing measures and we will be screening potential donors. Those who feel unwell, have travelled overseas or have been exposed to Covid-19 cases, will be turned away.
Thank you in advance for all your great support!
Did You Know?
About 400 units of blood is required daily in order to maintain a constant blood inventory of six days to support urgent transfusion needs and bleeding emergencies. One unit of blood is about 350ml to 450ml. According to the Health Science Authority that manages the nation's blood banks, stocks of blood cannot be kept indefinitely, owing to its short shelf life and red cells last a maximum of six weeks, while platelets can be used only five days after collection. This recent drop will lead to blood stocks falling far below the daily amount required to supply transfusion needs from surgeries, general medicine, and accident and emergency cases.
