Mercy Relief Chairman acknowledged contribution of SSA and other Partners
At the annual Singapore International Foundation (SIF) Award Presentation ceremony on May 7, President S R Nathan presented the SIF Award to Mercy Relief, received by Chairman of Mercy Relief, Mr Zulkifli Baharudin. The award recognises and honours the outstanding acievements of individuals and groups which, through their voluntary work and dedication have contributed to enhancing Singapore’s image as a caring neighbour beyond its shores.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Baharudin said, “The Mercy Relief story is indeed about Singapore. It was formed by a local Muslim organisation Perdaus… It was their foresight to turn Mercy Relief from a humanitarian project of Perdaus into an independent humanitarian organisation…We must not forget our partners namely Singapore Soka Association, the Singapore Catholic Archdiocese, the Young Sikh Association (Singapore) whose participation and partnership has made Mercy Relief worthy recipients of this Award.”
SSA has worked closely with Mercy Relief on expedition projects to Cambodia in 2002 and 2003, and in fund-raising campaign in aid of the devastating earthquake in Bam, Iran the year before.
(Upon the invitation of Mercy Relief, SSA General Director Ong Bon Chai sits on the Mercy Relief committee as a Board member.)
