Relief Aid for Iran’s Kerman Province

On December 26 an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale occurred in Iran’s Kerman Province. The earthquake, centred on Bam, a historical city with low houses and buildings built mostly on mud, killed more than 30,000 people and destroyed about 60% of the houses and buildings in the city.

In response to this crisis, SSA collaborated with Mercy Relief, the Inter-Religious Organisation, the Singapore Catholic Archdiocese, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and the Young Sikh Association, to raise funds to support humanitarian relief and rehabilitation operations for the victims of the calamity.

Besides a month-long donation drive in January, a street collection was held on January 25, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, where about 20 youth members of SSA supported the collection at two of the five SSA centres.
