[Did you know?] Today is International Friendship Day! The International Day of Friendship was first proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. . Coincidentally, marking the International Friendship Day and the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth this year, SSA was recently invited by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to participate in a meaningful collaboration of a Virtual Choir performing to the famous Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony ‘Ode to Joy’. Together with others around the world, Soka Chorus members joined in the virtual performance as a mark of global solidarity amid the ongoing pandemic and the video was first aired via Straits Times' social media channel. This event is supported by the National Arts Council, Singapore Press Holdings, and the Foundation for the Arts and Social Enterprise, as well as the German Federal Government and other private corporations. . SGI President Daisaku Ikeda shared, “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is the roar of the spirit of that great musical genius, who proclaimed, 'At the end of the suffering, there is joy!'” Let's continue to spread the warmth of friendship to many others in this increasing challenging time through our "Together We Dialogue" movement! . . . #sgsoka #sgi #yearofadvancementandcapablepeople #iwillbethatlionhearteddisciple #nichirenbuddhism #artsandculture
