09 Aug 2005 SSA’s 20th Performance at Singapore’s 40th National Day Parade
“Soaring to Greater Heights” This was the theme portrayed by some 1,130 SSA participants from the Adult Division members as they performed in Act III of this year’s National Day Parade on August 9. Some 25,000 residents attended the celebration held at the Padang Field where Singapore President S R Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and various cabinet ministers graced the occasion.
Centered upon the theme of, “40 Years of Nation Building”, this year’s show was presented in three main acts which narrated the story of Singapore in her early years through the 40 years of independence. In the finale, SSA Adult Division performers put up an exuberant mass dance which climaxed with spectacular light formations display, portraying an energetic and vibrant city looking towards the future.
Sixteen huge lanterns, each measuring about 4m wide, 5m long and 5m high added much colour to the mass display; each representing the aspirations of Singaporean including peace, prosperity, youth, aspiration, family, love, hope and the passion to dare to dream.
Parade Executive Chair Brigadier General Loh Wai Keong commended that the efforts by SSA members portrayed great dynamism and unity, and served as an exemplar for all.
(This year’s National Day Parade was brought closer to heart through a series of Celebrations at the Heartland where residents at three main locations, namely Tampines, Yishun and Jurong East, were able to join in the series of exciting activities lined up by the respective Community Development Councils. SSA also played our part in this community effort where some 1,000 Youth Division members were selected from the different Headquarters to perform at these locations.)
