Building Golden Bridges of Friendship in the Year of Soka Victory

SSA Youth Expedition Project 2019 Recruitment

At the start of this significant Year of Soka Victory, SSA youth division is organising a Youth Expedition Project (YEP) to Yunnan Province in China.

This will be the 14th SSA Youth Expedition Project, a youth division’s initiative since year 2000. Inspired by SGI President Ikeda who dedicated himself to forging the path of peace through building bridges of friendship between people throughout the world, youths of SSA will come together to trail blaze the path of friendship and peace in the same spirit through this overseas expedition.

The main objective of YEP is to enable youths to grow and uncover their potential by challenging themselves, acquiring team learning skills, and immersing themselves in a different culture. Through the process, we hope to develop youths that grow to be global citizens with a heightened sense of responsibility to actively contribute to the community.

If you are between 18 and 35 years old; physically and medically fit; able to commit at least 17 expedition days from 3rd week of May to the 1st week of June this year as well as 10 preparatory sessions; able to afford a sum of S$1,000 for the expedition cost, we invite you to come forward to join us in this journey of transformation and value creation together with the people of Yunnan, China.

Registration Forms can be downloaded here or obtained from SSA Headquarters, Soka Youth Centre and Senja Soka Centre.

Completed registration forms must be submitted by 3 March 2019. We look forward to your participation and support!

Youth Believers Training Course (YBTC)

—Walking the Path of Happiness for Oneself and Others!

To continue our efforts to help our youth believers, members who are new to faith, or family members who have yet to participate in SSA activities to further deepen their understanding of SSA and Nichiren Buddhism, SSA youth division will hold the YBTC which aims to help youth participants answer some fundamental questions, such as:

(a) What is this faith about?

(b) How does this faith and chanting work?

(c) Why should I practice?

Youth is a season of emotional turmoil and suffering… If a plane tries to take off without taxiing down the runway and gradually building up speed, it won’t succeed. And even if it takes off, if it lacks sufficient fuel and good maintenance, it won’t stay in the air long. It may even crash. Life and Buddhist practice are like a marathon. You may at times run out front and at times fall behind. But what matters is the final moment at the finish line. The training you undergo in your youth is all for that final, true victory. That’s why you need to study as hard as you can now. Keep chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and build up a reservoir of life force.
— SGI President Daisaku Ikeda

We sincerely hope that this training course will support the youth participants’ journey of faith by helping them answer some of these questions and serve as an impetus for them to take one step forward to deepen their faith in Nichiren Buddhism.
